Barley Mews Reviews

Andrew
Superb location for a getaway ,close to all the wonderful bars and restaurants in Weymouth harbour and not to far from the nothe gardens and Weymouth beach. The property has everything you could wish for.
Daniel
Barley Mews is the perfect stay in Weymouth. It is lovely inside, excellently located near the harbour, 2 parking spaces right outside which is a bonus, comfortable and has everything you need for a lovely holiday. This was our second stay and will certainly be back.
Malcolm
Stayed for a family big birthday holiday in half term school holidays and really enjoyed it. The accommodation was perfect, warm and comfortable. After reading previous reviews about cleanliness we were a little apprehensive but everything was fine. The games room was a real bonus especially as the weather wasnt great. Location in the heart of the old quarter with the harbour and sea nearby was perfect.
Location and size of the property is perfect. The property could do with a deep clean carpets need cleaning, windows and whole house needs cob webs being removed, oven & hob ect
We had woodlice running around all over the ground floor. This property has so much potential but its run down, not very clean and the insects were an issue. One of the neighbours was extremely rude to us when we asked her to move her car which she has left blocking the both parking spaces. She said screamed and shouted at us that she lives there!
We had a lovely stay at barley mews, unfortunately on arrival we didnt find the place very clean and had to give it a good clean when we got there , we found mouldy biscuits under the single bed and quite a lot of bits on the carpet around the table area which isnt ideal with a 2 year old running around . The mezzanine area is advertised but the folder left with all the details asks you not to use it , bit of a discrepancy . Issues aside we did have a lovely time x
We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday at Barley Mews, excellent property location and communal kitchen and living room area. We would love to rebook in the future. In anticipation of our future booking please can the following maintenance issues be addressed all windows need external cleaning.up a ladder to clean all cobwebs and dirt accumulation. in summer weather it would be good if all sky light windows in the dininglounge can be opened for ventilation & left open by the cleaners for the next arrivals? Do all sky lights open and function correctly? Window latches in the front ground floor bedroom are faulty & broken posing a security & comfort issue. sink plug in the Master bedroom en suite has been replaced and isnt the correct size for the sink, so the sink cannot be filled. some of the kitchen lights are not working.
We absolutely loved it here my family and friends. Perfect location for us had we love the harbour and newtons cove. The house its self was brilliant for our family and friends and the kids loved it. Loved the opened planned kitchen and lounge the games room and all the bathrooms. We already tried to book for next year but the house wasnt available for our dates we are gutted. Parking your cars right outside the house and not having to find a place to park was amazing has we all know Weymouth can be a nightmare for it. Only thing I can complain about is the pillows on our bed could do with new ones and new quilt has that had seen better days. Kitchen had everything we needed apart from a sandwich toaster has we all love one of these for a quick snack but thats just us and our friends. Highly recommended this property we come back to Weymouth every May holiday and its the only property we want to come back to has we love stopping in other properties every time we come.
Lovely property right near the harbour and the coastal path. Lots of nice places to eat & drink close by. Would recommend. We had a lovely stay
Nicola
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage. We arrived to find a Christmas tree in situ and a welcome hamper which really set the tone. The place was very clean and well equipped, although some of the cooking utensils such as the baking trays could be improved upon. The only criticism was that the two bedrooms downstairs shared a bathroom without a shower, just a bath. The cottage was brilliantly situated just minutes from the harbour. All in all highly recommended.
Beautiful well maintained clean home. Right In The heart of Weymouth with plenty of room for everyone. A real pleasure to stay in such a beautiful home.
Sheila
There were areas that weren't very clean. Toilet roll holders broken. Kitchen top cupboards difficult to open. Shower in bottom bathroom would be useful. Nice location.Recycling bins would be useful. Radio and cooker hood not working. Overall a super place to stay, we all enjoyed the games room. Thank you.
Kathryn
The house looks clean on the surface but there are areas that are really dirty e. G. towel rails and window frames. the electricity kept tripping off, the showers overflow and we had to clean out the gunge but it made very little difference. Boiler gave up and we had to restart it. stayed for two weeks and no change of bed linen . Dreams are sticking to the rules laid down during Covid that are no longer relevant, no clean towels after week one either.Call to dreams completely unhelpful. Upstairs living area like a sauna, great to have good weather but blinds on living room windows would have helped. Couldn't use the iron, it tripped the sockets. We paid a lot of money for two weeks and things should have been far better.
Ideal position for the harbour, restaurants, pubs and sea walks.
Letitia
We had a lovely time we had 3lot of couples bedrooms worked great just one thing ... We had a lovely time we had 3lot of couples bedrooms worked great just one thing we could want was a shower down stairs in the bath they had to borrow our shower otherwise great will hopefully come back soon
Patricia
A lovely week in very comfortable accommodation. Well situated for both the harbourside, the bay and Nothe Castle. I think more cutlery is needed but otherwise the house is well stocked. It should be made clear that anyone over 6 foot will have problems with the height of the ceilings. Overall very enjoyable.
Wonderful house in a great location. We will definitely be coming back to this property in the future.
Tamsin
Im afraid that whilst an interesting conversion of the property, with a lovely expanse of living area, arriving to mould on the toilet seat colonies of growth and general lack of proper cleaning in the kitchen it wasnt great. House was freezing and one bed had a 4.5tog duvet on it in March which wasnt helpful we called and three new duvets delivered but no apology for the toilet seat. Appalling baking pans clearly new cutlery following complaints but truly embarrassing contents of kitchen cupboards. Washing machine turned on and didnt stop for 15 hours so we called and was rectified. Shower in largest ensuite you cant put on straight as it floods the room as we found out. You have to aim it at the wall and stand that way. Room downstairs with two beds is freezing, its all a strange set up! In the summer may be fine but the blinds didnt go down over the old style slanted windows so it was very light, and the windows didnt shut so in the winds the blinds slapped back and forth. WiFi also the worst weve experienced! Otherwise a great stay

The property was really nice and spacious however it lacked basic items in the kitchen like knives for cooking and chopping both tin openers were broken otherwise the house was beautiful and really good our whole family loved it.
We had a great stay loved it the property was amazing the only thing I would ... We had a great stay loved it the property was amazing the only thing I would criticise is the cleanliness it was very dusty the wooden bed frame the radiators were caked in dust other than that great
Richard
House is fantastic for a large party of 68. Very difficult to criticise anything apart from a few minor points could have hairdryers in the bedrooms, the internet could have been faster, the pool table should be repaired. I would recommend this accommodation every time.
Sophie
The ice hockey puc was no where to be seen i did mention to the dreams cottage office they believed thr owner had locked the table but my partner switched it to air hockey but couldnt play it. Great house and location there are building works going on across the road so woke up frequent at 7am by the digger which wasnt ideal.
Property was very clean. My wife is a stickler for cleanliness and this property ranks as one of the cleanest we have stayed in, so please forward our compliments to the cleaning personteam. Just so you are aware the air hockey puck is missing and the wooden screen on the mezzanine level was blown over by a breeze coming through the sky lights which scared the living daylights out of us as it does come down with a crash, so Im not sure if its even worth having that there. Considering those are the only negatives I can find, you can see Ive had to really scrape around looking for anything that we could possibly find fault with. I read earlier comments about the neighbours being rude, but we found them all very pleasant and had some good chats with them, so I rather suspect the issues were with the guests rather than the residents! Would certainly consider staying here again in the future.
We have had a lovely week staying in Barley Mews. It was very comfortable, spacious and clean. It has everything you need for your stay. It is in a great location, with 2 parking spaces which is an added bonus especially in Weymouth. Our Grandsons loved the games room. Without a doubt we would stay here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We thought the property was was verything we needed.
Barley Mews was a lovely property and absolutely perfect for what we needed, such a lovely sociable space, beds etc were comfy, parking was good and location was perfect.
Philip
Fab holiday in mid October lucky with the weather. This property is great for a family or a group who want to be comfortable, have all the facilities they could need but also be close enough to town for all that Weymouth has to offer. Really can't complain about anything with the property and how it was described I should probably have paid a little more attention to the 'height' warning. I am 6'3 and had to duck a lot. Others in the party had no problem though. I would recommend this property to others. Great stay.
Nice location and comfortable spacious property. We had a nice week and thought the facilities were very good, but were disappointed by poor maintenance and cleanliness. The following were not functioning as you would expect Outside front light not working, Fridge door & freezer compartment, Blinds missing from skylights in main living area, Ensuite bathroom sink clogged with previous visitors hair gross, so we removed it .Toilet in the other ensuite kept running water unless the flusher was pumped, forcing a change of bedroom until we figured out how to stop it! Generally the photos advertising this property are out of date and make it look much nicer than it actually is.
Richard
Very low ceilings in all rooms. Im 63 and struggled to stand up straight and continually ducking for low beams throughout the property
We have been going to Weymouth on holiday as a family for over 10 years, and this was the first time in a holiday house. This was by far the best holiday we have ever had, and this was thanks to Barley Mews. The location, the facilities, the all round comfort and cleanliness was perfect. We were there for only a matter of hours before we quickly booked up again for next summer while there was availability.
Another key would be useful when several families are staying not all going to bed at the same time a few more hooks on bedroom doors also the blinds on the downstairs bedrooms were a bit tatty.
We had a brilliant holiday in Barley Mews, with mostly sunny weather, even if the wind was rather chilly at times. The location was great 2 minutes from the coast and walks in Nothe park, and within easy walking distance of Hope Squares restaurants, bars and facilities. The property was clean when we arrived, and we especially appreciated the comfortable beds. However, there are a few matters we would like to bring to your attention, which we believe should be rectified or brought to the attention of future guests. Although we didnt use them all, the comments take account of the fact that the property had 4 double beds assuming therefore 4 adult couples and could accommodate 9 people. Parking As we had one medium sized and one small car, we managed, but we had to shuffle to get the second car out safely. I doubt you would have fitted two large ie family cars in the spaces provided, and there is very limited alternative parking. We are dubious that this is adequate for 9 people, 4 couples and potentially 1 child. Guests should be warned that manoeuvring in and out of the parking is tricky and the spaces only suitable for small medium sized cars. It is difficult to get adequate ventilation in the living areas and bedrooms. We couldnt reach the roof vents and the windows in the walls do not open. Even in April it was hot & stuffy in the afternoons, and in hot weather it would be intolerable. To get to the outside space you have to go through the middle of the family bedroom a privacy issue, and a bedroom where in the evening a child might be sleeping. It was very awkward having no shower in the downstairs bathroom which is potentially shared by 5 people. Although the double bedroom downstairs has a freestanding hanging rail, there are no drawers, shelves or cupboard. The quantity of dining equipment is inadequate not enough wine glasses or tumblers for 8 adults no serving dishes or tablespoons no tumblers in the bathrooms. In a property of this quality, this is unacceptable. And although the property sleeps 9, there were only 8 dining chairs! The concave doors on the kitchen cupboards are lethal if opened together I trapped and cut my finger quite badly trying to open both together. At the least, guests should be warned to open the doors singly. And we couldnt find a First Aid Kit anywhere. Only 1 key was provided for the mortice lock. The key safe would be used if all were going out, but if some members of the party were to go out whilst some remain in the property, if the door were locked & the key put in the safe, then those in the property would be unable to get out. 2 keys would solve this problem. The TV in the games room isnt working believe there is a lead missing. We were surprised not to find a town map and leaflets about places to visit, as we have always found these in previous properties we have stayed in.
The onsuit shower door had a broken seal and was difficult to close, the whirlpool bath in the other onsuit did not have the whirlpool function, the pool table was broken and the shower in the whirlpool bath room leakedsprayed water onto the bedroom floor. The neighbour at No. 3 was complaining about parking, until she took it upon herself to repaint the markings. I did note the parking instructions and parked considerately, to allow for vehicle parkingmanoeuvring, but her NEIGHBOURS son complained that he had difficulty in getting inout when visiting, despite the parking spaces for No. 1&3 being empty. I emphasise that I was polite in my dealing with them, but the in my parties opinion complaints were unfounded and spoilt our stay. We noted in looking back through reviews left by other guests that the faults listed above had reportedcommented on previously Aug 21 for the shower and have not been repairedmaintained. Although our party easily coped with it, it became apparent that their may be an issue for others when it came to showering, as you only have the facility in the onsuit bedrooms. This is wasis obtrusive to people staying in those rooms. On the whole, our stay was ok, but I would not stay here again, and would not readily recommend it to others.
We had a fantastic multi generational holiday, the house was comfortable and warm and the decor was lovely. It is in a prime position with everything in easy walking distance, even for our octogenarian. We had a small problem with the downstairs sink which was quickly and professionally dealt with to our satisfaction. There are two things that we found a little frustrating, we could only get a handful of stations on both of the tv's and a comfortable chair for older people would have been lovely as we had to prop Mum up with loads of cushions! These are not complaints, just what would have made it perfect for our family. We would definitely stay again.
The outside space was unkempt and therefore unusable TLC needed. More hooks on doors needed for hanging clothestowels. Tumble drier should have been in working order how can 9 guests on a rainy day be expected to dry their clothes? More serving bowls for food would have been helpful. One of the en suites did not have a full shower doorscreen, therefore floor became drenched and a towel was not adequate to soak up the water. No lock on bathroom door, providing no privacy. However, spacious comfortable property, perfect location, parking great, games room provided much fun, very much enjoyed our stay. Would we return? No, due to no pets allowed.
